Now whilst we have had three GI Joe movies we have never had an Action Man movie but it seems that is all about to change
For those not in the know Action Man was originally based on Hasbro’s 1964 G.I. Joe figure, and the British version was launched in the U.K. by Palitoy with uniforms and accessories based on the British armed forces. The toy was reintroduced to the market in 1993 and this time based on the G.I. Joe Hall of Fame figure of that time. 2006 saw Hasbro license reproductions of a variety of the original Action Man figures to celebrate its 40th anniversary and Action Man got his own animated cartoon series that was only available on video in the U.K. due to broadcasting rules regarding advertising to children.
The third GI Joe failed at the box office and a fourth film, “G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant,” was in development but has since fallen by the wayside which is perhaps why Action Man is looking to have a first film.
The script for the project is being written by LA-based U.K. filmmaker Simon Hatt, known for his work at Marvel including as an exec producer on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and “X-Men ’97” co-writer Anthony Sellitti. Producing is Jeremy Latchem, another former Marvel exec whose credits include “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Avenger: Age of Ultron.”
