Brad Pitt spent much of 2024 in the UK filming race footage on the track in Northamptonshire and we now have a further look at the film with the latest F1 trailer.
Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.
The film is directed by Joseph Kosinski who had huge success with Top Gun Maverick and achieved some incredible shots and it looks like he might well do the same with the racing footage here. Kosinski helmed the film from a script by Ehren Kruger, following the pair collaborating on the 2022 smash Top Gun: Maverick. Pitt, Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer, Dede Gardner, Lewis Hamilton, Jeremy Kleiner and Chad Oman serve as producers for F1.
In an issue of Vanity Fair back in 2024 Idris Elba said, ‘ “I look to my left, it’s Brad Pitt. I look to my right, it’s Javier Bardem. I look at my hands, they’re shaking,” Idris recalled about the first day of the shoot. “And we shoot all of this epic stuff, and all the amazing drivers are there, from Lewis [Hamilton] to [Max] Verstappen to everyone.”….we get the impression he was pretty excited.
F1 will be released on 25th June 2025
