The sleeper hit of 2022 was ‘Fall’ a low budget, high suspense film that saw two friends trapped at the top of a 2000 ft tall TV transmitter in the middle of nowhere and worked quite brilliantly. Writer director Scott Mann hands over the reins for Fall 2 to the Spierig brothers whose previous films have included ghost story ‘Winchester’ and Saw spin off ‘Jigsaw’. This sequel sees Jax (Brit actress Harriet Slater with a convincing American accent) still grieving from the death of her thrill seeking sister whose videos have gone viral since her demise. Its whilst Jax is offloading her late sisters belongings that she meets Luce (Arsema Thomas) a friend of her sister.
Fall 2 – don’t look down!
The wall flower to her adrenalin junkie sister Jax is persuaded by Luce to overcome her grief by taking on the challenge her sister never got to do – a plank walk along the 4000ft cliff face drop in Thailand that’s been closed off for 30 years. What could possibly go wrong. Obviously everything as the two hire a local guide to take them up to the plank walk only to find themselves stranded after a rock slide takes out the planks either side of them leaving with no way up, down or across.
Like the first film there are dizzyingly head spinning moments that are enough to have you falling out of your cinema seat. But there’s only so much they can do with that central premise of them trapped on the bridge that won’t stretch to the majority of the films running time and it lacks that purity of the first film which by and large was nearly all set at the top of the TV tower and a shoehorned plot twist adds little.

That said the second act of the film is where the ‘fun’ is, though not if you have a fear of heights and will have you twitching in your seat and covering your eyes and that the film ends with the suggestion of a third film will see vertigo sufferers being put through the wringer once more
