It looks like the sequel to Pacific Rim is finally going ahead with shooting rumoured to be starting in late autumn /early winter this year and its just been announced that John Boyega has been signed up to take the lead role. He’ll play the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original film.
This was very much director Guillermo del Toro’s baby but it’s now been confirmed that he’ll not be directing this sequel and instead it will be Steven S. DeKnight whose previous work as a director has been TV with series like Daredevil & Smallville.
The original film only made $411m which is a decent amount except that the film cost a staggering $190m to make. Consequently the chance of a sequel was very much in the balance until recently.
