The last time director Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone worked together was on the Oscar nominated The Favourite which saw Olivia Colman walk off with an Oscar. Well now Stone and Lanthimos are back working on a film titled Poor Things and we’ve got a Poor Things first look photo and Emma stone is almost unrecognisable!
From the synopsis Poor Things is described as an incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman bought back to life by the brilliant DR. Godwin Baxter (Willem Defoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
Poor Things has a great cast and director Yorgos Lanthimos is something of a maverick in the way in shoots film as well as being a bit mad so the trailer when it lands should be intriguing. in the US the MPAA have given this a R certificate which means strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore, and language! So there’s sure to be controversy when this is released. Expect a trailer soon
