Highlights of the Pitch Perfect films have always been Rebel Wilson’s Fat Amy, a gloriously inappropriate character blurting out what should often be unspoken. At the time the actress was by her own admission overweight to an unhealthy level which whilst ideal for her character was far from ideal for her own health and 2020 saw her go headlong into a 12 month fitness regime which saw her lose a huge amount of weight and frankly looking amazing by the end.
But she has recently revealed that she was obliged to stay at her weight for the three Pitch Perfect films saying, ‘“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because it was in the contracts for that movie. You can’t lose — I think it’s not more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.”
Having first played Fat Amy in the first film back in 2012 she reprised it in the 2015 and 2017 sequels. But the Rebel Wilson fat contract had her trapped as her size and public persona was also getting her roles and the actress went on to say, ‘But I had been thinking for a while like, ‘Oh, I want to get healthier.’ And I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles. I love doing the roles; I love those characters. But then I did want to do more things, but I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed.”
But her desire to have a child especially as she neared 40 years of age which saw her take advice from a fertility doctor and was the impetus for the 2020 health drive and in November the actress gave birth to her her first child, a girl named Royce Lillian, via surrogate.
