With Ridley Scott having directed three of the films in the Alien franchise he has a vested interest in subsequent films and with a new film having recently been shown to him here’s what Ridley Scott said about the new Alien film….
The new film is directed by Fede Alvarez whose previous includes the Evil Dead remake as well as the thriller ‘Don’t Breathe’ (reviewed HERE). Having put together a ‘Directors Cut’ of the new Alien film he was purportedly terrified of Ridley Scott seeing it as the veteran director is famously blunt about films. Scott is reported to have had issues with ‘Blade Runner 2049’ and when he was asked about ‘Top Gun Maverick‘ he said, ‘My brother’s was original and this is like, ‘Meh’.’
Alvarez delivered the rough cut and waited for Scott’s reaction. It took him by surprise with Alvarez saying, “He walks into the room and he did say, ‘Fede, what can I say? It’s f**king great,’” the filmmaker recalled. “For me, it was like … my family knows it was one of the best moments of my life to have a master like him, [who] I admired so much, to even watch a movie I made, but particularly something like this … and talk to me [for] an hour about what he liked about it. … One of the best compliments he said was, ‘The dialogue is great. Are you the writer?’ Yes!”
The new Alien film is set for release on 16th August 2024 and stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. Little is known about what is the ninth film to feature the monsters but the plot is thought to centre on a group of young people on a distant colony as they fight for their lives against the Xenomorph.
