Denis Villeneuve’s next film…..Dune 3 or Nuclear War?

18th December 2026 in IMAX!  On that date Warner bros have pencilled in as the release date for director Denis Villeneuve’s next film but quite what it is remains to be announced. All that is known is that it has been described as an ‘event’ film.  And the smart money is on it either being Dune 3 or his Nuclear war film based on an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Pulitzer Prize finalist ‘Nuclear War : A Scenario’.

Villeneuve was cagey about what he might be working on next and noted that he had four projects currently on the table. He said that any potential delay in getting started on adapting Hebert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah for a third film would be “about making sure that I have the right screenplay.” The Director went on to say at the time that may possibly want to work on a project that he deemed more time-sensitive “before tackling Dune Messiah.”

So the nuclear war film is  based on Jacobsen’s book  and “explores a ticking-clock scenario about what would happen in the event of a nuclear war, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and have been privy to the response plans and have been responsible for those decisions should they have needed to be made.”

Dune 3 or Nuclear War?  We’re putting out money on Dune 3 so he can bring the trilogy to a close.
