So as Avatar 3 officially titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash” continues with a massive post production schedule in order to be ready for its Christmas 2025 release director James Cameron has revealed who’s been dropped from Avatar 3?

There had been some confusion over the involvement of Michelle Yeoh as Dr. Karina Mogue but the director has now confirmed that she has been dropped from Avatar 3 but instead will now reappear in Avatar 4 and 5.

Yeoh will be much more involved in filming in what’s left to shoot. Cameron says:

“She will be coming in soon to do her part, which is an interesting, fun character. I mean, we’re getting ahead of ourselves now. This whole thing has been planned for years and years. The scripts were all written years ago, through the end of movie 5. So we’ve been working on parts of 4 even as we go along, mostly because we’ve got this young cast. We had to shoot them all while they were still young. We love Michelle. She was always a movie star, but she’s blown up into a huge, huge phenomenon.

The second film, third film and the first act of the fourth film were shot at the same time due to the child actors involved as early in the fourth film, those characters will undergo a time jump with various characters being notably older by quite some years.

After the release of the third film there will be quite a wait for the following films with “Avatar 4” set for a release in December 2029 and “Avatar 5” in December 2031 by which time James Cameron will be 77 years old. Quite what he will turn his hand to then is anyone’s guess although he has hinted at something new in the Terminator franchise
