James Cameron continues to be king of the world with Avatar remaining the biggest box office earner with $2.924billion and its 2022 sequel Avatar The Way of Water earning 2.3billion. There are three more film on their way with the Avatar 3 set for release in 2025. But thou8ght there will be five films with the fourth releases in 2029 and a fifth in 2031 but Cameron has recently suggested that this will not be the end of the franchise and that we can expect Avatar 6 and 7 too!
He has ideas for further films saying, “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point. I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”
To that end he went on to say that he intends to keep working on this franchise as he sees no point in dropping it because it’s a property people have become immersed in (especially with the 3D versions), drawing comparisons to “Star Wars” and “Star Trek”.
A fourth film is 25% shot and a fifth film will not start shooting for a couple more years yet so Avatar 6 and 7 will not start shooting until well into the 2030’s by which time Cameron will be likely be 80 years old – although in fairness Ridley Scott, Woody Allen and Clint Eastwood were still going strong at that age
