The first Ali Gfilm was released way back in 2002 to generally poor reviews having chosen to have a script rather than the improvised skits that had proved so successful for the TV show. The film makers reverted to that when they made the Borat film to enormous commercial and critical success. Now, over twenty years later, a second Ali G film sees them stick to that format and from the ‘Ali G – Who Iz I?’ trailer it looks like this could be a huge success
After twenty years spent “chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’”, Ali G is shocked to discover that his long-term girlfriend, Julie, is 8 months pregnant. Faced with an extra mouth to feed, he gets off his batty and heads to America to reclaim his former glory… but soon encounters adversaries who will ultimately threaten his and his child’s very existence.
Like his Borat film sequel this was filmed covertly with few knowing that a second Ali G film was even being planned. Costarring alongside Sacha Baron Cohen is Morgana Robinson who is perhaps best known to British audiences for a range of spot on impressions and hopefully this will boost her into the international arena.
Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film, ALI G: WHO IZ I? marks his directorial debut and will be released in cinemas on 23rd October 2026 by Amazon MGM Studios.
