There can be little argument that Tom Cruise is the only A-list star who has styed an A-list for decades. Arguably something of a global cultural icon his films have earned over $13 billion at the worldwide box-office. A three-time Oscar nominee and producer of the Best Picture-nominated Top Gun: Maverick, he has for 46 years defined a career of iconic roles, from Risky Business and Jerry Maguire to the Mission: Impossible series. An accomplished aviator, stunt performer, and philanthropist, Cruise continues to push cinematic boundaries and champion the theatrical experience, with Digger from Alejandro G. Iñárritu up next. Well now he’s about to make a decades later sequel with the announcement of his next film, ‘Days of Thunder 2’.

It’s an interesting choice of film to make a sequel for a number of reasons because despite a cast that included the late Robert Duvall, Cary Elwes, John C Reilly and Michael Rooker and helmed by Tony Scott the film was generally regarded as a but of a flop at the box office earning only $157m and not making it to the Top ten earners for 1990. It’;s also the film where he famously had Nicole Kidman cast as the on screen (an off screen) love interest and they married on Christmas Eve the same year
Also announced to appear in Days of Thunder 2 is Anne Hathaway who is set to play a team owner and engineer. Taking its lead from Christopher Nolan the sequel will be filmed din IMAX meaning the races should look phenomenal and will be looking to top those in seen Brad Pitt’s summer blockbuster. ‘F1’
The film is set for release on 2nd June 2028
