.......the guy on the right was actually the bodyguard......

Welsh director Gareth Evans Indonesian set action martial arts thriller The Raid garnered a hugely loyal following with its frankly astonishing fight sequences and stunts many of which it could barely be believed that no one, if not killed, did not at least suffer serious injuries. Incredibly it seems that no one did. Both films garnered huge acclaim from fans and critics alike but despite that the first film The Raid : Redemption (2012) only earned $4.1m and The Raid 2 (2014) earned only $2.6m. Hollywood was keen for a remake but that seems to have gone quiet. So what’s happened to The Raid 3, the final film in which Gareth Evans apparently has a story line ready?

Evans is currently doing the rounds for his latest film ‘Apostle’ a horror film and a distinct move away from his previous action films which is about to air Netflix. Whilst doing the rounds he’s inevitably been asked about when we can expect to see The Raid 3 to which he has replied,

The Raid 3 was… at one point it was on my radar. I had a full idea. I know what the storyline would have been. But I think enough time has passed now that I think I’m not likely to go back and revisit it. We had a lot of fun making those films, and I think we came to a nice, sort of natural conclusion with [The Raid 2]. And I think sometimes you can have a little bit too much of a good thing’.

In another interview he added,

The Raid 1 and 2 were incredible for me, but I just didn’t want to be doing The Raids all the time. And the more time has gone on from that, the less interested I’ve been to go back there. What we did with The Raid 2, we kinda close that off nicely, so it didn’t really appeal to me to jump back into that world again’

Seems like The Raid 3 is dead.

Here’s one of the stunts and how it was done…..
