Whilst Once Upon a Time in Hollywood nears the end of its shoot Tarantino’s Star Trek is back on the radar again due to Karl Urban who plays Dr. McCoy, mentioning it when appearing at the Trekonderoga convention.
Whilst a new season of “Star Trek: Discovery” , some new short films and a new Picard series are going ahead the next film is less than certain after the last Star Trek didn’t perform as well as hoped for. Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth are in negotiations for more money which is stalling production on a fourth film.
Karl Urban (Hangman) believes the salary dispute with Hemsworth and Pine will be resolved soon. If it isn’t then they have Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek project in the works with Urban confirming it involves the current film cast and looks to be targeting an 18 -rating saying:
”Quentin Tarantino went in to [producer] J.J. [Abrams]’s offices and pitched him an idea for a Star Trek movie. I know a little bit about what that is, and it’s bananas. So, they are writing that as well.
I was personally delighted he was not only a Star Trek fan, but also interested in working with our cast. It’s not only a new story, but he is just one of those filmmakers that has a very unique and specific vision. And he totally utilizes the camera to tell the story… I think that Tarantino would be able to do something quite unique. So, fingers crossed that will happen. It is in the hands of Paramount. If we don’t get to make [Star Trek 4] next year with Chris Hemsworth, then that’s ok, let’s make a really good Quentin Tarantino Star Trek movie.
You shouldn’t worry that it is going to be full of obscenity and stuff. He wants an R-rating to really make those beats of consequence land. If it’s not PG, if someone gets sucked out into space, which we have all seen before, we might see them get disemboweled first…It allows some breadth…gives him some leeway to do that.”
Tarantino’s Star trek is unlikely to get as bonkers as some of the ideas that almost made it in the TV series as we outlined here. Simon Pegg wasn’t quite so certain that Tarantino’s Star Trek will go ahead but we’ve managed to get hold of some exclusive excerpts from Tarantino’s Star Trek script.
SCENE – The bridge of the USS Starship Enterprise. Spock enters…..
Spock: Live long and prosper when you eat a Royale with Cheese!

Spock: Yo ass ain’t going nowhere til I get the brothers down with blow torches and pliers. Where you think yo going anyway?

At this point Captain Picard enters the scene….

All pull a gun and shoot each other. McCoy rushes over to them.

Scotty: Spock’s dead baby. Spock’s dead
Everyone shoots each other in a Mexican standoff – their guns are not set to stun. (‘You’re Fired! – Ed).
