Priscilla trailer - Sofia Coppola's latest film about Elvis and his wife

After Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 film, ‘Elvis’ we now have a film about his wife with the Priscilla trailer which received its World Premiere in Competition at the 80th Venice International Film Festival,  followed by the UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival earlier this year. Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, Priscilla is based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me written by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon.

When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.

The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown, Bad Times at the El Royale) as Priscilla, Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, The Kissing Booth) as Elvis Presley, and Dagmara Dominczyk (Succession, Bottoms, The Lost Daughter). Priscilla was nominated for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival and lead actress Cailee Spaeny is a strong contender when awards season begins in earnest in the run up to the Oscars. According to an interview with The Guardian in March 2023, Sofia Coppola had to cut a week’s worth of scenes from the script after some of the film’s financing dropped out shortly before shooting was due to begin.

Priscilla opens theatrically in UK & Irish cinemas om 1st January 2024 with special 35mm previews from 26th  December 2023.
