With James Gunn and Peter Safran now heading up Warners DC superheros the first film from this new chapter will be Superman Legacy and with Nicholas Hoult having been in the mix for the role its now been confirmed that the new Superman is David Corenswet …..but who is he?
Born and raised in Philadelphia to a father who worked as a stage actor for many years before joining his wife as a lawyer. Corenswet graduated from Julliard in 2016 and landed a guest role in House of Cards in 2018. He had parts in Elementary, Affairs of State and Instinct and in 2019, he landed a starring role in The Politician followed by the 2020 TV show , ‘Hollywood’ but Superman: Legacy marks Corenswet’s first major role in a big studio film.
Corenswet screen-tested for the role of Man of Steel on 17th June in Superman garb and in plain clothes and ironically back in an 2019 interview for Entertainment Weekly saying, ‘ “My pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman,…… “I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”
Hopefully he wont be struck down by the rumoured Curse of Superman a series of supposedly related misfortunes that have plagued actors who have played the role of Superman on film and television. George Reeves, the first to play the role on TV shot himself, Christopher Reeves was paralyzed in a horse riding accident and Lee Quigley, who played Superman as a baby in the 1978 film died from inhalent abuse
Playing Lois Lane will be Rachael Brosnahan who starred in the underrated ‘I’m Your Woman’ (reviewed HERE) for Amazon
