The outbreak of the Yom Kippur war in 1973 caught Israel off guard and inflicted severe early losses on the army. The resulting public anger damaged prime minister Golda Meir’s reputation and led to an inquiry into the failings and Oscar winning director Guy Nattiv’s new film covers the events with Dame Helen Mirren, herself an Oscar winner too, in the title role. Written by Nicholas Martin, whose previous films include the hilarious, ‘Florence Foster Jenkins’ starring Meryl Streep & Hugh Grant, this new film covers the war, the decisions that were made (and not made!) by Meir whilst at the same time battling a serious life threatening illness.
