Many will be familiar with the stop motion animation pioneered by the late great Ray Harryhausen and despite the huge success of Pixar, stop motion still remains a favoured style by directors none more so than Claude Barras whose 2016 film , ‘My Life as a courgette’ was Oscar nominated. But his latest film Savages is very different.
Savages is set in Borneo, at the edge of a tropical forest where Kéria is given a baby orangutan. With the forest under greater threat than ever, Kéria, Selaï and the little primate, Oshi, will have to face many obstacles. Read our review HERE
We had the opportunity to chat with Claude Barras about the film (via a translator) and its title, the problem with fingers and elbows, the most problematic thing to animate and we pratice our very rust french too!
