What was the most difficult shot in the Star Wars franchise? Now whilst the legendary Ray Harryhausen and his work on films such as Sinbad, King Kong and a whole load of others he is not the only animator to have advanced the art form. Most notable is Phil Tippett whose work has earned him an Oscar for Jurassic Park but has also worked on films such as Robocop and Starship Troopers and of course the original Star Wars trilogy.
Now well into his seventies he is still working and 2022 saw him finally release his long in the making stop motion animation film, ‘Mad God’ that took him decades to make. During that time he has continued to work on other films including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ( the mine truck sequence), Willow, two more Robocop sequels, The Twilight saga …..and um….Howard the Duck
We had the chance to chat to Phil about so much of his work and of course Star Wars was a major topic that took in the chess set and Jabba the Hut. But amongst the wide range of topics we spoke about we came round to the topic of just what was the most difficult shot he had to do for the Star Wars trilogy. Here’s what he revealed and it might well surprise you….
