Landing in our inbox is the Bad Apples trailer that looks terrific not only because it stars Saoirse Ronan, but also because of its subject matter, the appalling schoolchild protected by a state endorsed system that lets the kid get away with just about anything. Now when we were in school corporal punishment was still in full effect and nothing focuses the mind more than a psychotic Deputy Headmaster administering a near fatal beating.
Bad Apples sees Maria, a primary school teacher doing her best to inspire a class of 10-year-olds, is stifled by one unruly and chaotic student. With her career in question and the child’s behaviour spiralling, she makes a series of bad decisions that lead to her accidentally taking and locking this “bad apple” in her home. Maria tries desperately to backtrack, but when the class starts flourishing and the staff and parents are thrilled with the improvement, she finds herself in a very complicated predicament.
Alongside Saoirse Ronan the cast includes Eddie Waller, Nia Brown, Jacob Anderson, Rakie Ayola, Robert Emms, and Sean Gilder. The film is directed by Jonatan Etzler and written by Jess O’Kane
