Co-written by Zoë Kravtiz ‘Blink Twice’ is her directorial debut and very impressive it was too when it was released at the tail end of summer 2024 and is now available for purchase on Blu-ray and DVD (The Blu-ray is exclusive to the retailer HMV.)
When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. Blink Twice stars Naomi Ackie (“I Wanna Dance with Somebody”), Channing Tatum (“Magic Mike’s Last Dance”), Christian Slater (“Unfrosted”), Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”), Adria Arjona (“Hit Man”), Kyle MacLachlan (“Inside Out 2”), Haley Joel Osment (“The Sixth Sense”), Geena Davis (“Thelma & Louise”), Alia Shawkat (TV’s “Arrested Development”).
The film earned a respectable $46m worldwide and saw Channing Tatum in a rare bad guy role that proved he’s as good as playing those type of role as he is at light comedy. Yes, really that is it. It’s a vanilla release in the extreme without even the trailer and the Kravitz’s debut deserves better and a directors commentary would have been ideal. Instead both the Blink Twice DVD and blu-ray contain just the film which is very good but when that’s all that is on the disc makes the Home Ent release a disappointment.
