Canadian director David Cronenberg’s films have always been distinctively his but his son Brandon Cronenberg has followed his father into film directing and with several films already to his credit he has already established a style that’s very much his. Landing in our inbox is the Infinity Pool trailer, his latest film and looks sure to disturb as much as his last film ‘Possessor’ did ( it also starred Andrea Riseborough who was great in another demanding role).
The film is a s follows……While staying at an isolated island resort, James (Alexander Skarsgärd) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman) are enjoying a perfect vacation of pristine beaches, exceptional staff, and soaking up the sun. Guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth), they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror. A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero tolerance policy for crime: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.

There’s a decent cast here that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth, Cleopatra Coleman, Jalil Lespert and Thomas Kretchmann and Mia Goth is establishing herself as a leading light in horror after starring in Pearl , X and the Suspiria remake. There was a rumour that Robert Pattinson has been approached for a role but declined. As an idea of what to expect Infinity Pool was originally rated NC-17 in the US for “some graphic violence and sexual content”. After an unsuccessful appeal for an R, the US distributor NEON edited the film to get the desired rating. The uncut version was screened at Sundance, while the edited version was released in cinemas. …so don’t say you haven’t been warned!
