After the success of Scream there was a slew of self referential horror with 1997’s I Know what you did last summer being the most successful earning $125m at the box office. The film was based on the 1973 young-adult suspense novel by Lois Duncan. 1998 saw a follow up film earning a disastrous $40m off its $65m budget. ‘I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer’ in 2006 was a straight to video follow up with an all new cast but a streaming series on Amazon debuted in 2021.

The story behind the making of Scream 5
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr are apparently in talks to reprise their roles with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson lined up to direct with Neal H. Moritz is in talks to return as producer. The idea is to bring back original cast members to draw in old-school fans but at the same time we can expect to see a load of new faces to relaunch the series and for the studio it seems that it was too good to pass up. It’s looks like this might be a passing of the torch type sequel.

Robinson co-wrote Thor: Love and Thunder and directed Netflix’s Do Revenge. The 1997 slasher film saw four teens from a small seaside town haunted although frankly stalked would be a more accurate description, by a hook-wielding maniac after getting into a hit-and-run accident, that they’d tried to cover up. We are intrigued as to what this new film which will act as a reboot will be like especially with Love Hewiit returning.
