The Scream 7 overhaul after Melissa Barrera was fired....

With the news that star Melissa Barrera was fired after her social media remarks about the Israel-Palestine situation it has meant that the Scream 7 overhaul is now of necessity as she was to be the star. But she’s not the only one not returning as Jenna Ortega, who plays Barrera’s sister in the film,  will not be back either due to scheduling conflicts with the next series of ‘Wednesday’. It was hoped that she might be convinced to come back for some sort of cameo but that now seems highly unlikely.

James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, the writers of the previous two “Scream” installments, have the job of the Scream 7 overhaul although its likely that set pieces and twists will remain but the film will now need to find new protagonists. The Scream franchise has had characters return and though Neve Campbell was not in the sixth film due to issues over her fee it s likely that producers would be keen to see her reclaim her iconic character Sidney Prescott. There’s also the possibility that we could see the return of Patrick Dempsey, who had a scene-stealing turn in 2000’s “Scream 3′ but at present none of these actors have been in active negotiations yet but the with the film now being rewritten its a strong possibility.

Scream 7 had been set for a 2025 release but the Barrera / Ortega situation now sees producers effectively having to start over again so that release date could still be met but only if the writers can find another plot and write it up quickly especially as “Scream” films don’t require extensive visual effects and can be turned around pretty sharpish.
