With President Trump imposing tariffs at every country in the world he’s now turned his attentions to Hollywood or specifically films made outside of the US and yes it does involve imposing his beloved tariffs on films made outside the US. Quite how this works nobody knows least of all Trump who doesn’t seem to understand that why so many American films , especially the big franchises, are made outside the US ( and the UK studios are a huge benficiary of those, is that these non-US countries offer tax incentives that make them irresistible to producers. Hence why so many Marvel films are shot here along with films such as Wicked, Jurassic World, Mission Impossible and so many others. But it appears there’s good reason why why James Bond is not afraid of Donald Trump.
At a press conference, Trump was asked by The London Times about the tariff plan where he said:
“We’re putting tariffs on… film, the moviemakers, and we’re going to be doing some tariffs to get them, because a lot of them have left this country. They all live here, the money comes from here, everything comes from here, but they make them in other countries. So, we’re gonna do something to bring them back, maybe to a large extent.
But James Bond has nothing to worry about, that I can tell you. And you know, Sean Connery was a friend of mine. Sean Connery was responsible for my getting zoning in Aberdeen. He said, ‘Let the bloody bloke build his golf courses.’ I was like four years into the process, and it was impossible in Aberdeen… He was a great guy, Sean Connery.”
And that’s why James Bond is not afraid of Donald Trump. Jeff Bezos on the other hand….
