It may be hard to remember but before 2008 Liam Neeson had been in heavyweight films that included of course Schindler’s List but also Gangs of New York, Michael Collins, The Mission and The Bounty, But 2008 saw him appear in his first full on action film ‘Taken which spawned two sequels and had him appearing actioners ever since. Well now Liam Neeson retires….from action films.
At least that’s what he has said in a recent magazine interview saying, “I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” ……“You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me,” he added. Mark is Mark Vanselow his stuntman stand in. Despite saying this he has not set a time to stop making action movies but noted that it could be sometime in late 2025 saying “Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it,”.
His next few films are all actioners apart form the reboot of the naked Gun which has wrapped and is in post production and likely to be one of summer 2025’s films. Neeson’s next film, Absolution, will hit theaters on November 1. It revolves around an aging gangster who attempts to reconnect with his children and amend past mistakes. And after that The Mongoose will be a Prime Video film with Neeson as Ryan “Fang” Flanagan, a war hero who, accused of a crime he didn’t commit and with nothing to lose, leads police on an epic televised cross-country car chase, helped by members of his former Special Forces Army battalion and closely monitored by a fascinated public rooting for his safe getaway
Rumours that should any producer offer him yet another action film that he will find them and he will kill them remain unfounded. Although a fourth Taken film was to see Liam Neeson retires to a nursing home (‘You’re fired! – ed)
