Robin Hardy director of The Wicker Man and a third Wicker film...

Released back in 1973 The Wicker Man starred Edward Woodward in one of his greatest roles along with Christopher Lee, Ingrid Pitt, Britt Eckland (in a scene that every teenage boy had burned into their retinas) and directed by the late Robin Hardy in his directorial debut. It’s one of British horrors great films with an ending that ranks right up there with the very best. Hardy would direct only three films with his second being 1986’s The Fantasist and a much belated sequel to The Wicker Man appeared in 2011. That sequel was The Wicker Tree and polarized audiences with what was generally regarded as a poor sequel but the third Wicker film was planned.

The Wicker Man was released in 2013 in what was described as The Final Cut and it was during that time that we had the opportunity to chat with the director in details about various aspects of that film that included Anthony Schaffer’s script, locating lost scenes, the disappointing reaction the sequel and of course that ending!

Whilst we were going through our back catalogue of archive interviews we took another look at the interview and Hardy’s mention of a third Wicker film and knowing how many fans both old and new love the first film and we thought we would play an excerpt of the interview about a third film in what would become a franchise.
