News of a Blair Witch Project remake
Way back in 1999 The Blair Witch Project was released onto an unsuspecting world whose interest in the faux documentary had been spurred by a quite brilliant internet website in the very early days of the world wide web and was ahead of the game in its promotion of the film that set a template for those that followed. Costing a meagre $35k the film went on to earn a monumental $249m making it one of the most profitable films ever made. Well now there’s anew of a Blair Witch project remake!
Who’s behind the Blair Witch Project remake?
Helming the film will be director Dylan Clark after Lionsgate and Blumhouse signed up for a multi-film deal with a new take on “Blair Witch”. Clark’s background is in short films with his short horror film “Portrait of God’ having gone viral. It caught the eye of Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and Jordan Peele’s Monkey Paw for Universal Pictures and is to adapted into a feature film. That short film saw devoutly religious woman preparing a presentation on a portrait that looks completely black to almost all – but some report seeing a person in the darkness that’s far from holy.

A Blair Witch Project remake, reboot, reimaging…call it what you will would seem to be something of a gamble. The sequel that appeared in 2000 – ‘Book of Shadows’ – cost $15m and made $7m but it was poor. And Gareth Wingard’s reboot ‘Blair Witch’ in 2016 fared better costing only $5m but making $41m. But the success of the film was really down to the faux documentary style with the website promoting it further as being a true story but once the truth came out it was hard to trick audiences again. And if nothing else it launched a whole new genre with’found footage’ films
