We are big fans of director Rob Savage. His lockdown film ‘Host’ was a brilliantly scary film shot on a miniscule budget and one of the best films of 2020. He followed it up with Dashcam another low budget and bonkers mad follow up with a load of highly effective scenes. But now he gets a decent budget and a Stephen King novel with his Hollywood debut and we get a first look at The Boogeyman trailer. The book was an early Stephen King short story which has been developed into a feature length film and in fairness some of King’s short stories have been better than standalone novels..

High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

With a screenplay by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (“A Quiet Place”) and Mark Heyman (“Black Swan”) based upon the short story by Stephen King, the Boogeyman stars Sophie Thatcher (“Yellowjackets”), Chris Messina (“Birds of Prey”), Vivien Lyra Blair (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”), Marin Ireland (“The Umbrella Academy”), Madison Hu (“Bizaardvark”), LisaGay Hamilton (“Vice”), and David Dastmalchian (“Dune”).
Originally intended for streaming release test audience reaction proved so positive that the studio are giving it a big screen release which always enhances the scares in our opinion! From his previous work and the look of the trailer this looks to be another one of Rob Savages well constructed scare fests and frankly we can’t wait to see this.
The Boogeyman opens on 2nd June 2023
