The John Wick trilogy is one of those rare things namely a franchise that has made more money with each successive film earning $86m , £171m an $326m respectively which is why a fourth film will start shooting as soon as Keanu Reeves finishes on Matrix 4 which is waiting to restart production due to the covid 19 pandemic put a hold on the shoot. Well now we have news of a John Wick spin off. Provisionally titled ‘Ballerina’ it will focus on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.
Chad Stahelski, who has directed all the Wick films (admittedly the first he co-directed) but it appears that the John Wick spin off will be directed by Len Wiseman probably best known for Die Hard 4. From what Stahelski has recently said about John Wick spin-off the film will see a different type of action from the trilogy saying,……..
“Having him on board and approaching some of the action design from a slightly different perspective, meaning the set pieces, the character involvement, how and what he wants to do during the action sequences, makes it kind of fresh. So, we’re not just copying ourselves over and over again with gun-fu or something like that. And because the character is different, we’re going to get a different take on things. So, right now, I know that him and Shay [Hatten] are developing Ballerina. I’m not exactly sure what stage it’s at, but it’s something I know that both Lionsgate, Thunder Road and myself would like to see happen sooner rather than later. And from what I’ve heard recently, they’ve got a good angle on it and they’re actively developing.”
Added to this is the rumour of a John Wick prequel series that’s in development to be called, “The Continental”.
