Master Gardener – TRAILER

So when we were in college whenever someone would quite cheerfully tell us they were a master gardener which was usually followed shortly afterwards by the police putting in his front door and carting him away in cuffs to face the court on a charge of cultivation of cannabis. But when the Master Gardener trailer dropped in our mailbox we were not expecting a Paul Schrader scripted and directed film starring Joel Egerton and Sigourney Weaver.

The film follows a meticulous horticulturist Narvel (Egerton)  who is devoted to tending the grounds of a beautiful estate and pandering to his employer (Weaver), the wealthy dowager. But when troubled great-niece Maya (Quintessa Swindell) arrives seeking apprenticeship, Narvel’s perfectly cultivated life begins to unravel, unearthing secrets from a violent past that threaten to destroy everything he holds dear.

Schrader’s has a hugely inpressive bacl catalogue of films that includes Taxi Driver, Dominion (the fourth Exorcist film that was scrapped by the studio once it had been shot), and most recently the excellent ‘Last Reformed’ (reviewed HERE)  and also ‘The Card Counter’ (reviewed HERE) Having watched the trailer we get a distinct vibe of Luc Bessons’s excellent ‘Leon’ but this being Schrader is sure to have far more depth as well as action.

Coming to UK Cinemas from 26th May 2023
