What happened to Courtney Love?
Courtney Love former lead singer with Hole and wife of the late Kurt Cobain cut quite the controversial figure throughout the 1990’s. Now settled and living in London her wild days are seemingly behind her. Well her story is about to be recounted in the documentary Antiheroine that’s just been announced in Sundance Film festival that will coincide with new music from her, the first in over 10 years.
“Singer, songwriter, and actor Courtney Love has long had an impact on rock and pop culture,” reads the logline. “Now sober and set to release new music for the first time in over a decade, Courtney is ready to reveal her story, unfiltered and unapologetic.”
Who’s behind this Courtney Love film?
Helming the film are directors Edward Lovelace and James Hall, whose previous films have included the award-winning feature “The Possibilities are Endless” and the documentary series “Human Made Stories.” On producer detail is the wildly successful Julia Nottingham and her Dorothy St. Pictures, an award-winning production house whose female-fronted documentaries have included, “Pamela, a Love Story,” “Coleen Rooney: The Wagatha Story” and the recent “Victoria Beckham” docuseries that basically showed race baiting grifter, professional narcissist and failed business woman Meghan Markle how to make a successful documentary.
Signed up to contribute to the documentary are a number of musicians including Michael Stipe, Melissa Auf der Maur, Eric Erlandson, Billie Joe Armstrong, Patty Schemel and Butch Walker.
Foe such a well known figure its a surprise that a documentary has not been made about her before. “Courtney has waited a long time to tell her story, in her own words and it’s deeply important to all of us at Dorothy St Pictures that strong, female-forward stories find the audiences they deserve,” said producer Nottingham. Adding, “As a child of the 90s, I was always curious about Courtney, a woman who often appeared to be defined by her husband Kurt Cobain…….We made this film because Courtney’s story is bigger than the headlines. It’s raw, complicated, and deeply human.”
