With a Best Actor Oscar under his belt Cillian Murphy now stars in what looks like another awards contender in the Small Things Like These trailer.
Cillian Murphy delivers a stunning performance as devoted father Bill Furlong in this film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Claire Keegan. While working as a coal merchant to support his family, he discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent — and uncovers truths of his own — forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.

Tim Mielants and written by Enda Walsh based on the best selling novel by Claire Keegan.
The film is based on Claire Keegan’s historical novel, “Small Things Like These,” published in 2021. And in 2022, it was nominated for the Booker Prize and the Las Bones Folio Award. It also won the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction, the Ambassadors’ Prize for best Irish novel published in France, and The Kerry Prize for Irish novel of the year.
This looks a film that might be distressing yet powerful and sure to incite fury about what happened. Murphy is a huge fan of this film’s original novel writer Claire Keegan. He remembers reading her 2010 novel Foster on a train and having to pull his hoodie over his face because he was crying so hard. Small Things Like These was the opening film at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival.
