With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 out and the promotional tour over writer-director James Gunn and now Head of DC Films with Peter Safran attention now turns to his first film from that stable with some Superman Legacy casting news/
The three roles that are top of the list are Superman (obviously), Lois Lane and Lex Luthor all of which have had notable names play them over the decades and it looks like tis new film will be no different. Audition tapes were being sent in up the cut off date of 4th May and Gunn is apparently wading through them with screen tests rumoured to be taking place on 29th May onwards.
So who is in contention for the roles? One name that comes up for Superman is Nicholas Hoult but it’s said that he is now a serious contender to be Lex Luthor but a name that has also been thrown around is Idris Elba who Gunn directed in The Suicide Squad. However its David Corenswet, who recently played the ill-fated projectionist opposite Mia Goth in Pearl, who is among the top contenders to play Clark Kent, aka Superman. Jacob Elordi, who was the villian in the resident villain on HBO series Euphoria, was rumoured to be in the mix but sources say he never submitted a tape. British actors Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson are also names doing the rounds.
Lois Lane could be Emma Mackey, one of the stars Warner Bros. new Barbie film, or Rachel Brosnahan or Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor; or Samara Weaving. Though Brosnahan tape is said to have been “outstanding” its rumoured that Gunn is going for 20-something characters in his vision of Metropolis and at 32 would be a too old.
Expect roles to be confirmed by the end of the the summer
