Sequels…
Back in 2006 the first Devil wear Prada film made $326m almost 10 times its budget. But it still took 20 years for a sequel to appear primarily because of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s reluctance to commit to a follow up that that might tarnish the original. But with both actresses having won an Oscar since and the film having established Emily Blunt as a bona fide star and having worked with Christopher Nolan, Tom Cruise, Mike Nicols and Dwayne Johnson it might have seemed impossible to get them back (and it is clearly going to cost more too – Streep. Hathaway & Blunt were each paid a rumoured $12.5m). Well after the success of the sequel earning $300m in just two weeks and still doing well there’s already talk of The Devil wears Prada 3 !
The second film ends on a upbeat with with Streep’s editor Miranda Priestly along with , Andy (Anne Hathaway) and Nigel (Stanley Tucci) taking their stylish fashionista magazine ‘Runaway’ upwards and onwards towards a hopefully bright future with the backing of the wealthy Sasha Barnes (Lucy Liu) despite the rise of digital media. And even after her failed coup, Emily (Blunt) looks to redemption at Coach. So there’s is whole load of potential plot threads for The Devil wears Prada 3. There’s plenty of runway to plot out a threequel.

Director David Frankel is certainly open to a third film saying, ‘Look, it took us 20 years to do this one. And I said, “Never again,” and here we are. So, I certainly would never say, “Never again,” again. Let’s see what happens. If there was an opportunity to revisit the characters and to share a few months with these wonderful actors again, obviously, I’d love it.’
….so The Devil wears Prada 3 would seem to be a high certainty!
