2019 saw the last Star Wars franchise movie and future films have had a troubled path with directors as diverse as Taika Waititi to Patty Jenkins rumoured to have been helming new films before dropping out. But the TV series have been more successful with The Mandolorian being especially good. Well now there is new of a Mandalorian movie and directing will be Jon Favreau.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
It was thought that a Daisy Ridley led film would be first out of the gates but that now seems a little way away with the Mandalorian movie now taking precedence. No release date has been confirmed but there is an untitled Star Wars feature set for 19th December 2025.
Launched in November 2019 as the flagship show for Disney+, with the character then known as Baby Yoda becoming a pop culture phenomenon. Pedro Pascal leads the series as Din Djarin, also known as The Mandalorian, a warrior who reluctantly (at first) cares for Grogu. The show’s third season bowed last year, and it has launched a number of spinoffs, including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, which has a second season in development. Th e news confirms that news Favreau and Dave Filoni are the most important writers and directors in the Star Wars galaxy.
It is known that a fourth season of the series has been written but whether this will adapted to make the film film or if the series will eventually go ahead is unknown at present
