Here’s The Substance trailer the film that wowed audiences at this years Cannes Film Festival from director Coralie Fargeat’s (Revenge) and is a deliriously entertaining and ruthlessly satirical new film.
Demi Moore gives a career-best performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by repellent studio head Harvey (Dennis Quaid). She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: THE SUBSTANCE. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twenty-something Sue (Margaret Qualley). The only rule? Time needs to be split: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. A perfect balance. What could go wrong?
The Substance received its World Premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival to riotous acclaim, rightly winning the prize for Best Screenplay, and will now be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 20th September 2024. Coralie Fargeat’s Cannes sensation turns toxic beauty culture inside out with a be-careful-what-you-wish-for fable for the ages. Explosive, provocative and twisted, The Substance marks the arrival of a thrillingly visionary filmmaker.
Demi Moore said she was nervous about filming full nudity at age 61 and felt vulnerable but she credited co-star Margaret Qualley, 29, who played a younger version of her and also performed totally naked, with making her feel comfortable on set. Moore said she found “someone who was a great partner who I felt very safe with. We obviously were quite close — naked — and we also got a lot of levity in those moments at how absurd those certain situations were.”
