We are two thirds of the way through the year and after Mother Mary, The Devil wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey, Anne Hathaway is already on her fourth film release with the launch of the Verity trailer and mind bending it looks too!
The Verity story….
Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, this seductive, psychological thriller follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.
With Dakota Johnson and also Josh Hartnett whose has been on something of a comeback trail over the past couple of years. Director Michael Showalter and Anne Hathaway previously worked together on The Idea of You (2024) which was another another book-to-movie adaptation.
Behind the scenes….
A film adaptation of the novel was first being developed by Mick Antosca and Alex Hedlund and they had hired APril Maguire and Will Honley to write the screenplay before November 2020. The project was brought to Amazon MGM Studios in May 2024 and Hillary Seitz was working on the script further. After additional draft work from Angela LaManna, Antosca was finalizing the screenplay himself in November 2024 when Michael Showalter had signed on to direct the film and Anne Hathaway agreed to lead the film as Verity Crawford. The next month, Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson were cast to star opposite Hathaway.
VERITY IS RELEASED ONLY IN CINEMAS on 2nd OCTOBER 2026
