A back catalogue of great sequels…..
With Toy Story 5 doing enormous business, meaning that a Toy Story 6 would seem to be a dead cert, attention has turned to Pixar’s hugely impressive back catalogue. So whilst Toy Story has five films, Cars had three films, many of the other films have had one sequel only including Monsters Inc, Inside Out and The Incredibles although a third film for each is in the offing. But the one film that was a big critical and commercial success and won a Best Animated Feature Oscar was Ratatouille back in 2007 and an obvious candidate for a sequel. So whatever happened to Ratatouille 2?
Whatever happened to Ratatouille 2?
Ratatouille 2 is something that that the bigwigs have approached writer director Brad Bird about and whether he would have an interest in doing a sequel and he had no qualms about telling them, ‘No, I don’t!’
Bird has spoken about this approach by the Pixar executives to the Hollywood trade papers explaining, “They’ve made little feints towards that to see how I would react. They’ll, like, crack a joke, but the joke will be a little bit serious, like, ‘Would you?’ And I’m like, ‘No, we told that story.’”
He continued, ‘“Any time you do something that ends up connecting with people, they automatically think, ‘How about another?’” …….. “People have mentioned it about The Iron Giant, which is hilarious to me because the film didn’t succeed at all in its initial release. It’s caught up in time, but what would you do to follow that up? He’s lumbering around, still undiscovered? In other words, to me, that story is told.”
His back catalogue….
Bird’s films are nearly always a huge success of a high standard and except for ‘Tomorrowland’ which was an expensive flop every other film has been a box office success which includes his two Incredibles films, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and of course Ratatouille.
