There’s been no end of pop stars who have turned their hands to acting many of them proving that its far more difficult. But one of the exceptions has undoubtedly been Lady Gaga and whilst Joker Folie a Deux was catastrophically bad (though not because if her) it was her lead role in A Star is Born that proved she really could act and was rightly nominated for Best Actress Oscar. Since then she’s made other films most notably ‘House of Gucci’ and returning to the fashion theme with her latest role and this is just how The Devil Wears Prada 2 Lady Gaga cameo happened.

It’s all thanks to Meryl Streep who met her at the Streep and Gaga met at “SNL 50” in February 2025 and immediately got on with one another. Talking to Jimmy Kimmel the actress revealed “It was written there would be a pop star that would sing live on a runway in Milan. We were going to have this big show there. I thought, well why don’t we get Gaga, cause she’s so great, and she loves fashion, and… I had her number.’
Gaga was on a World tour at the time of filming but flew into Milan Fashion Week to film her performance on the catwalk of the song she had had written for then film, ‘Shape of a woman’. In addition to this they wrote a great little scene for her and Streep with their respective on screen personas obvious dislike for each other, Director David Frankel explained, “We thought we’d make up this persona for Gaga that there’s this terrible history, and she’s such a diva that Miranda can’t stand her, and she loved it!”
The dress issue….
Gaga’s scene was to pay tribute to Italian fashion and the films costume designer Molly Rogers explained, “There was one Versace canary yellow crystal gown, and she rehearsed in it a few times … but she looked like a part of the fashion show, so we settled on a piece of her archive,” which was a custom Atelier Versace number with a matching scepter, that the singer had worn previously for the 2012 Grammys. “She rehearsed in like three different things, and that was the one,” Rogers explains. “I said, you move differently in this one. And she said, ‘I felt it too. Let’s go for it.’” Except the dress started falling apart during the shoot. “It was literally like dry-rot on ‘Carrie.’ Things have fallen apart on Sarah Jessica Parker [during “Sex and the City”], and this was falling apart on her,” Rogers says and continued, “We mended it, and it was amazing!”
