The ascent of actor Jacob Elordi’s stardom continues with the release of The Dog Stars trailer from director Ridley Scott who is 89 years of age this year and shows mo signs of slowing up with several other productions already in pre-production including a Bee Gees biopic.
What’s The Dog Stars Trailer about?
Based on Peter Heller’s bestseller the plot sees a post-apocalyptic world after a virus has wiped out humanity. Survivors face roaming scavengers called Reapers. Protagonist Hig (Elordi), a pilot, survived the flu but lost his wife and everyone he knew. He lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting ex-Marine. Hig sometimes heads off in his 1956 Cessna, where he can fish and pretend things are how they used to be. When a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life might exist if he flies a bit further. He risks it all. to chase a possible haven in Grand Junction.
Joining Elordi is a great little cast that includes Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney.
Some behind the scene facts…
Paul Mescal was originally set to lead the project, reteaming with Scott after Gladiator II, but when Mescal had to drop out due to film Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project Elordi was cast. After the critical success of Frankenstein and the commercial success of Wuthering Heights (currently $240m and counting) Jacob Elordi is much in demand and the latest though unfounded rumour is that he’s a contender for the role of James Bond… but then every young actor seems to be at the moment!
