So we are big fans of the TinTin animated films that rarely seem to be broadcast these days but 2011’s The Adventures of Tintin was a mo-cap feature length film directed by Spielberg himself and produced by Peter Jackson that earned just under $374m. The deal they had struck was that their roles would be reversed for a second film and then co-direct a third film. But fifteen years later a second film still has not come to fruition. So what has happened to TinTin 2?
Well it seems that TInTin2 is happening according to Peter Jackson himself when interviewed at the 2026 Cannes film festival where he is being awarded an honorary Palme D’or and he seems a bit ashamed that its still not hit the big screen yet saying, ‘Steven did his film, then for 15 years I haven’t made mine. I feel very awkward about that.’
But then he gave the audience the good news adding, “I’ve been working with Fran [Walsh, Jackson’s partner] on another Tintin script, I was writing it in the hotel room here,” said Jackson in his Rendezvous session at the festival, discussing his career and upcoming works. ….“It’s an active real thing, and I’m getting back into the Tintin world, and I actually love it.”
It’s not the only film that he has been intending to make for years because there’s his version of the 1955 war film classic. ‘The Dambusters’ that saw the RAF make an attack on German dams in the Second World War. “The true story is much more interesting [than the 1955 film The Dam Busters],” said Jackson. “A lot of that technology was top secret that they couldn’t put in the 1950s film. That’s an amazing story about invention and solving problems to achieve a goal.
