What happened to the ‘Wil E Coyote vs. Acme’ movie......

The live action animation hybrid Wile E Coyote vs. Acme finished shooting way back in 2022 and would be released by now. Except it won’t. In fact it will never be released if reports are correct because it seems that this is the latest production that has been shelved by Warners bros executives after they did the same with the Batgirl TV series as well as the ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt” special.

Coyote vs. Acme was intended for release on HBO Max. Directed by Dave Green who previously directed 2016’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” and produced by DC Studios co-chief James Gunn, who also worked on the story the film is based on the Looney Tunes character. The project was announced back in 2020 and dated for a 21st July 2023 release before it was taken off the calendar entirely and replaced by Greta Gerwig’s eventual blockbuster “Barbie.”

So what happened to the ‘Wile E Coyote vs. Acme’ Movie? a statement from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation said, “With the re-launch of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in June, the studio has shifted its global strategy to focus on theatrical releases……With this new direction, we have made the difficult decision not to move forward with ‘Coyote vs. Acme.’ But it seems that much the same as Batgirl the film has been written off as a tax loss before it was released. Director Dave Green is reportedly devastated as the film, having been shown to test audiences, was scoring very high indeed. Its rumoured that the cast and crew will get a special screening before its locked away in the vaults forever

Bur despite this it seems that the outcry from the film makers and fans alike it seems that Warners will now reportedly now let the filmmakers shop the $70 million-budgeted live-action/CG animation hybrid feature to other potential distributors to acquire and release the title either theatrically or more likely direct-to-streaming. The studio will now allow director Dave Green to shop his live-action/animation hybrid movie to other potential buyers instead of shelving the project for a tax write off with Amazon said to be a contender in the mix, with screenings for potential buyers taking place this month

So its looks like there’s been a U-turn and we will get to see it after all!
