So we’ve had both Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder play Willy Wonka in film adaptations of Roald Dahl’s beloved book but now we get Timothee Chalamet playing the character but this time as a kind of Willy Wonka The Wonder Years as a young man in a type of origin story with the release of the Wonka trailer.

Based on the extraordinary character at the centre of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book, and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wonderous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

Co-written by the also brilliant and slightly mad Simon Farnaby the film has a cast that includes Olivia Colman, Keegan Michael-key, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Matt Lucas, Jim Carter and Hugh Grant

We were invited to an exclusive preview of the trailer a little while ago (take a look HERE) where the director the brilliant Paul King did a Q&A and gave us a little insight into what we can expect in what looks like an all star film ….and for us the highlight is the very end of the trailer in what looks set to be another role that steals the film!

WONKA is in cinemas nationwide from 15th December 2023
