Amazon take control of Bond

It’s been fours years since we had Daniel Craig’s final Bond film No Time to Die in 2021. Going out on an explosive high that no one saw coming we’ve been waiting for the announcement of who will next play the super spy. Whilst we have been waiting Amazon acquired MGM, including their huge back catalog with more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows including the rights to distribute all of the James Bond films. Well now it seems that following completion of deal Amazon take control of Bond creatively too! Under the venture, the three parties are co-owners of the franchise, but it is Amazon MGM that gets the creative control.

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who have had full ownership and control of the 60 year old franchise stepping back from producing James Bond movies to focus on art and charitable projects. in a statement Wilson said, ‘Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future

Broccoli added, ‘“My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli. I have had the honor of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects,”

Quite what we can expect is anyone’s guess because although there’s been the fair share of ropey Bond films ( Moonraker, The World is not Enough, You Only Live Twice) we’re looking at you) but this could easily go in one of two directions. Bigger budegt5s, better effects and maybe even auteur directors given the gig – Chris Nolan and Tarantino have both expressed interest over the years – equally it could see them play it safe and curtail budgets.

Since the announcement bald billionaire Jeff Bezos is asking, ‘“Who’d you pick as the next Bond?” and consequently has been bombarded and it seems Henry Cavill is the one suggested most (for us we’d like to see Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the role) though our Editor wants it known that he is available ( and frankly always will be!).
