What we know about the return of Rey in the new Star Wars film….

Announced at Star Wars Celebration in London is the return of Rey played by Daisy Ridley in the new Star Wars film. The studio is calculating that, despite widespread antipathy for “The Rise of Skywalker,” audiences are keen to follow Rey’s story into uncharted narrative territory.

Set 15 years after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” where we last left Rey having discovered that she was the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine, but chose light over darkness. She also chose to go by the name Rey Skywalker, in a nod to her mentor Luke Skywalker.

The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy who previous includes a couple of episodes of Ms Marvel. Obaid-Chinoy said the film will be immersed in a Jedi academy with a new Jedi Master, Rey and the story finds the return of  Rey “rebuilding a new Jedi Order.”

The films was previously being worked on by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson but after they left the project its our own Steven knight who wrote Peaky Blinders who is now working on the script. This is the first of three new Star Wars films with James Mangold (“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”) to direct a film about the first Jedi set a whopping 25,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, in what amounts to an origin story for the Force. Dave Filoni will direct his first live-action feature with his Star Wars film set before the events of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

“I’ve spent the majority of my life meeting real heroes battling oppressive regimes, which is why I’m interested in a new Jedi Order,” Obaid-Chinoy said.

Release dates for these new “Star Wars” movies were not announced  ut its thought that they will go in to production later this year.

There’s a lot resting on these new films with hardcore fans being highly vocal about the third trilogy of films
